Dermaplaning + Cold Therapy for Dehydrated Skin with Fine Lines

Dermaplaning + Cold Therapy for Dehydrated Skin with Fine Lines

One treatment — and this client's skin looked smooth, fresh, and visibly more lifted.

The client came in with a request for hydration: her skin looked dry, with fine lines and uneven surface texture. Karyn Purcell, Licensed Esthetician, built the protocol around the client's skin condition and treatment goals, combining techniques in a purposeful sequence.

Meet Karyn Purcell, Licensed Esthetician

This protocol was performed by Karyn Purcell — a Licensed Esthetician and owner of The Florida Facialist (Florida, USA). Karyn is a solo practitioner who specializes in customized corrective skincare.

Her approach: skin analysis and a personalized home care plan matter just as much as the in-spa treatment itself. Karyn believes skincare is healthcare, and she builds every protocol to be simple and effective.

Client: female

Main concern: hydration + fine lines

Visible signs: dry-looking surface, uneven texture, fine lines

Sessions: 1

Protocol goal: smooth, hydrated-looking skin with a more lifted-looking contour

Visible result: more even texture and a more lifted-looking appearance

What the Skin Was Showing

Dry cells on the surface

A buildup of dry corneocytes and vellus hair makes the micro-texture rougher: light reflects unevenly, and the skin looks duller than it actually is

Dehydrated-looking texture

When the upper layers of the stratum corneum hold little water, the surface looks less plump — and that's exactly when fine lines read more strongly

Tired-looking contours

Together, dryness and uneven texture visually "blur" the facial contour, making the skin appear less toned

Karyn built the protocol in the following sequence:

1. Double Cleanse

What was done: a double cleanse with a facial cleanser. Why: to fully remove makeup, SPF, sebum, and surface impurities before working with the blade. What happens in the skin: the oily film is lifted off the surface of the stratum corneum — the skin is ready for even, safe dermaplaning.

2. Dermaplaning

What was done: facial exfoliation with a 10R blade over a dedicated gliding oil. Why: to remove dry corneocytes and vellus hair and smooth the micro-texture. What happens in the skin: dry cells and vellus hair make the surface micro-rough and scatter light. After dermaplaning, the surface becomes smooth and light reflects more evenly — the skin instantly looks brighter and more polished, and the products that follow apply more evenly.

3. Cold Therapy

What was done: a generous layer of Zemits FirmingGenius PRO Conductive Gel with Peptides was applied to the face, followed by slow, circular passes with the Zemits ColdRestore Facial applicator along the massage lines of the face. Why: to tone and soothe the skin, locking in the feeling of freshness after exfoliation. What happens in the skin: the aloe vera–based gel with glycerin and peptides ensures even applicator-to-skin contact and comfortable glide. The system, in turn, maintains a controlled temperature at skin level, so the contact cooling delivers an instant feeling of freshness: the skin looks firmer and more toned, with a reduced appearance of puffiness.

4. Face & Décolleté Massage

What was done: a manual massage of the face and décolleté area. Why: to relax the client and give the treatment the feel of a complete ritual. What happens in the skin: gentle massage movements give the skin a rested, refreshed look and enhance comfort after the cold therapy step.

5. Hydrating Mask

What was done: a full-face mask was applied. Why: to provide the prepared skin surface with additional hydration. What happens in the skin: the skin looks plumper, and fine lines read more softly.

6. Finishing Care

What was done: finishing serums, a moisturizer, and SPF 30. Why: to close the protocol with a protective layer and preserve the result. What happens in the skin: the finishing products form a supportive layer over the stratum corneum, reduce moisture loss, and leave a smooth, hydrated-looking finish.

The result came from a clear sequence of steps. First, the skin was cleansed and prepared; then its comfort, tone, and hydration were supported. Each step built on the previous one, which is why, after just one treatment, the skin looked smoother, fresher, and visibly more lifted.

Visible Result After 1 Treatment

After one session, the skin looked:

  • smoother in texture
  • brighter and fresher
  • more hydrated-looking
  • more lifted-looking

The most noticeable change was how the skin caught the light. Once the dry cells and micro-roughness were gone, the complexion looked fresher, more luminous, and more polished.

Home Care

Karyn gives home care just as much attention as the treatment itself. The client was set up with a simple maintenance routine: a gentle cleanser, a vitamin C serum, a lightweight moisturizer, and SPF 30 daily.

This treatment format can be positioned on a spa menu as:

Glass Skin Facial

Smooth + Glow Facial

Pre-Event Skin Prep

Cold Sculpt & Glow

This way, clients see it not as "just another classic facial," but as a structured treatment with a clear result logic.
